The only Corvette plant in the world is here, and the line does not wait

🏭

Every Corvette built since 1981 has come out of Bowling Green. It is the only plant in the world that makes them, it has produced somewhere over a million cars, and around eleven hundred people work there. If you live here you either work at the plant, are related to someone who does, or know the shift patterns anyway.

Assembly work has a specific physical signature, and it is not the one people expect.

Cycle time, not weight

The heavy stuff is usually not what hurts you. It is the same modest movement, at the same angle, on a fixed interval, for a whole shift. A motion that is harmless once becomes something else at several hundred repetitions, because you never get the pause where your body would normally reset.

That is why the ache often turns up somewhere you were barely using. Your body borrows from wherever it can to keep the pattern going.

Overhead work is its own category

Anything done above shoulder height loads the neck and shoulders in a way that accumulates quietly. Rotating through it where the job allows is worth more than any stretch afterwards.

The drive home

An hour in a seat straight after a shift is not recovery, it is a second, quieter version of the same problem. Two minutes walking the lot before you get in the car does more than it sounds like.

When it is worth talking to somebody

Soreness that clears over a weekend is the job. Worth a conversation with a qualified provider: pain still there on Monday morning before the shift starts, anything travelling down an arm or leg, numbness or tingling, or a grip that has started dropping things.

That last one is easy to explain away and it is worth getting looked at.
