Your car is parked on a hill and your back is paying for it

๐Ÿš—

In a hill city you rarely park level. You park on a slope, and getting in and out of a car on a slope is a genuinely different movement from doing it on the flat. One leg takes more, you twist further to clear the door, and you do it four or six times a day without ever thinking about it.

Why getting out is the hard part

Standing up out of a car seat already asks a lot: you are moving from a low seated position, rotating, and pushing up, usually while holding something. Add a camber and one leg is now considerably lower than the other, so the push happens from an angle rather than square.

Repeat that twice a day for years and it is a pattern, not an event.

The seat itself

A commute through hill neighbourhoods is constant small braking and steering rather than a steady cruise. Your lower back is making continuous small corrections that a flat highway commute does not ask for. That is why a short hilly drive can leave you stiffer than a longer flat one.

Set the seat so you are not reaching for the wheel, and take the chance to stand up properly when you arrive rather than going straight to a desk.

When it is worth talking to somebody

Stiffness after a drive that eases when you move is ordinary. Worth a conversation with a qualified provider: pain getting in or out of the car that is sharp rather than stiff, anything that travels down a leg, numbness or tingling, or a back that has started to feel unreliable when you twist.
